British No. 1 Katie Boulter is through to the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open after recording a straight-sets victory over former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu in Tokyo. Boulter was full of praise for her team after the match and admitted that she felt like she had nothing to lose against her Canadian rival. Boulter will face the USA’s Sofia Kenin in the semi-finals.
Katie Boulter believes she had “nothing to lose” in her 6-2 6-1 quarter-final victory over former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu at the Pan Pacific Open.
The British No. 1 made light work of the world No. 159, dispatching her Canadian opponent in straight sets.
Boulter will go head-to-head with the USA’s Sofia Kenin in the semi-finals in Tokyo.
“Credit to me and my team, we keep pushing and we’ve worked really hard through the Asian swing,” Boulter told Sky Sports News after the match.
“It’s starting to pay off. I feel like it’s it suits me out here. It’s the end of the year and I’ve got nothing to lose.
“I’m swinging out here, having a smile on my face and I’m just proud of myself and my team for continuing to push me all the way through until the end of the season.
“That’s something I haven’t been able to do before, because of my body, so I’m very proud and I’m very happy to be here in the semi-finals.”
Kenin reached the semi-finals with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over Daria Kasatkina.
Boulter believes everything clicked in her victory over Andreescu in Tokyo.
